Retail Riches

Well...sort of. I guess.

Recently I was in my "local" Target. "Local" meaning 45 minutes away. This Target has a pretty decent card aisle. Far superior than my two much more local Walmarts. So I dropped a decent amount of coin on Fairfield repacks, blasters and packs. Most of what I pulled was nothing special, as is to be expected. But here are some of the highlights.

429/999

Guaranteed hit from a repack. Not pack pulled but I'll take it.

Legends Variation. Pretty rare pull from retail.

Wouldn't ya know, just a couple weeks after pulling my first ever redemption from Panini, I pull my first ever redemption from Topps. Looks like this card is live now so hopefully I won't have to wait too long for it.

eBay wins

Recently I picked up some nice cards on the bay. Here are four of my wins. One is still en route.

2011 Topps Marquee
#169/199

I'm always up for Chipper Jones relics. But I have to say that this design is pretty bland with all the blank space. Still, it makes a nice addition to my PC.

78/99

I got this card for a very good price, less than $5 shipped. I got it partially as trade bait for the Padres collectors out there or anyone else if they're interested. But if not I'm happy to add it to my collection.

01/50

This one cost me more than I normally would spend on a player I don't PC. But I got this one also to use as trade bait for all of you Cardinals collectors out there. I thought the fact that it is numbered 01/50 should add a little bit of enticement. Like the Alonso card I would be happy to keep this one in my collection as well. But I can part with it if someone makes me an excellent offer.

A Growing Problem

In the last couple weeks I've opened somewhere around 300 packs from various sets. A large portion was from my once every few months hobby box buy. The rest were from lucking into some great retail markdowns. Obviously this has been a blast. I'll show off some stuff soon. But tonight when I was sorting I came to realize what a large problem I have building up in front of me.

I'm being overrun by commons. I have near full sets that are in cardboard boxes. I have stacks of cards sitting on the floor with nowhere to put them. I have hobby boxes and blasters that still contain the cards, in the wrappers, that were not among the ones I found most desirable. I don't know what to do with all these cards.

My problem is as much storage space as it is storage containers. While the space problem cannot be easily solved, the container problem can be remedied by buying more. But I honestly don't really want to. I have binders for my favorite sets and my Braves PC. I also have a 5k box for hits, inserts and other cards that could be of some value. But I don't want boxes and boxes of cards sitting around that I'm never going to look at and no one is likely to want in a trade.

Now don't get me wrong, this isn't going to stop me from buying cards. This is why I'm starting to shift my focus to the more mid range sets that I really enjoy. But I still have the current problem at hand. Does anyone have any ideas about how to get rid of common base cards and low end inserts? I don't want to throw them away because I did spend money on them after all and as a collector I feel like that would be sacrilege. I have considered filling up USPS flat rate boxes with commons and offering them up for the cost of shipping or for trade. Does that pique anyone's interest?

Things are looking Up-ton

It's always a great feeling when you finally manage to acquire a card you've been chasing. My latest eBay pickup was one of those. Ever since 2013 Topps Triple Threads hit the streets I've been chasing a Justin Upton auto/relic. I LOVE TTT and one of these beauties was sure to make an excellent addition to my PC. But every time I saw one on eBay it would either go out of my price range or I would get sniped at the last minute. Well a few weeks ago I finally landed one.

#74/99

All for $12.50 shipped which is less than half what they were going for six months ago. Mission accomplished!
