McGriff was always a favorite of mine growing up. I hated to see him leave the Braves for the Rays in 1998. He was such a consistent hitter throughout his career when he was healthy.

Are any of you out there high volume case breakers?

I've been reading a little bit on Blowout's forums (not sure if that is a good thing or if it will make me jaded about the hobby). I'm wondering if people who do that are actually able to make a big enough profit to make it worth all the time spent ripping as well as managing sales online, etc. Or do they even make a profit at all?

I'm wondering because now that my seasonal job has ended and I'm looking for work in an area that still has high unemployment, a source of money would be a nice thing. And I have realized that my joy in the hobby is much more about just ripping packs to see what's inside than it is about collecting the cards. (Besides Braves of course!) I understand that there is a real risk if you're small scale, but does it balance out in the higher volumes where you have a better shot at landing the really rare stuff?

This is probably just a pipe dream but I sure would love to make some real money off ripping packs, as I'm sure most all of you would.

Ray Durham is from Charlotte, NC, about 45 minutes away from me. These days he lives in a little town called Stanley which is only about 10 minutes down the road. I go through Stanley all the time. I have yet to actually run into him in a store or anything but I have seen him driving around. You always know it's him because it is typical "Small Town, USA" and definitely no one else in the town drives a Lamborghini. 

I'm not sure what his attitude on autographs is, maybe some of you would know what his reputation for it was back when he played. But I have thought about keeping a couple of his cards in my car just in case I ever do run into him.

Topps Chrome- Rangers collectors?

Recently I picked up another rack pack of Topps Chrome. I think I've decided that I like Topps Chrome more than Bowman Chrome, at least this year. Here are the highlights from the rack pack which included three packs of four cards each plus a bonus pack of three orange refractors.

A nice refractor of the new National League MVP. I got to see Cutch play for the Hickory Crawdads in low-A ball. He showed a ton of promise back then and that promise has definitely come to fruition.

I'm not sure how I feel about this card. I like the 1972 Topps design. But I do not like minis at all. So after getting used to all the 1972 minis in series 1 and 2 this year it was weird to see this card full size. Better than a mini I guess.

The best base card in the whole bunch. The above three cards actually all came from the same pack. Thus the other two packs were nothing special.

The Orange Refractors were nice though.

I would have thought this one would go for a nice sum on eBay, especially seeing what the Pweeg Orange Refractors are going for. But the three that are currently listed are for pretty paltry sums and the highest that any have sold for is $5.52. Therefore if there are any Rangers collectors that are interested it is up for trade as well as the Derek Holland. Just make me a Braves offer!! =)
